Tom Piper
Scenehouse is delighted to have Tom Piper as its patron.
In 2004 Tom was appointed the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Associate Designer. This prestigious post reflects the achievements of his diverse and accomplished career to date.
After graduating from Trinity College, Cambridge, Tom went on to train at the Slade School of Art. His early career included a formative period of work with Peter Brook’s company in Paris. Subsequently his practice has encompassed a wide range of theatrical styles from pantomime to opera. Production credits include: the Royal National Theatre, Abbey Theatre Dublin, York Theatre Royal, Dublin Grand Opera, the Lyric Hammersmith Studio and the Royal Albert Hall.
His sets are characterised by striking uncluttered design which allows imaginative use of the stage space, and by a stylistic clarity that maintains the audiences’ focus on the performer and performance.
Tom has links with Scotland having designed for both the Royal Lyceum in Edinburgh, and the Tron Theatre in Glasgow. It was at the Tron that he began his creative partnership with director Michael Boyd which has flourished at the RSC.
