STUDYING AT SCENEHOUSE
The Scenehouse working day varies depending on our location. A normal day in the design studio runs from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. with an hour break for lunch. Our studio is generally accessible during the evenings for those who wish to work on independently. There are also days when we are away from the studio visiting other locations for workshops or specialist classes.
The Design courses comprise a mixture of lectures, group work, personal projects and practical skills development. The Make and Paint courses naturally focus more on craft skills.
At each step students will be mentored by a tutor. Staff will be with present throughout the programme providing students with many hours of one to one tuition.
Work at the Scenehouse will be regularly augmented by site visits to major producing venues to see work in production, both on stage and behind the scenes.

The Scenehouse programme is delivered through a range of locations in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Our main design studio is located within Maldevic House, a late 19th century building sited near the port of Granton. You can find directions to it here.
Some of our project work will also utilise the fabulous lighthouse factory, sited nearby.
This iconic building was once the headquarters and central store of the Northern Lighthouse Board. It’s now a hub of theatrical activity being both a rehearsal space and theatrical repository of props, costumes and furniture.
Our Paint course is hosted by the Royal Lyceum theatre at their Roseburn workshop. You can find a map here.
Other venues that we are likely to visit include:
The Royal Lyceum, Edinburgh
The Traverse, Edinburgh
The Arches, Glasgow
The Citizens Theatre, Glasgow
